Product Name
Felodipine Tablets
Feiluo Diping Pian

Active Ingredient
The active ingredient is felodipine.

Description
White or almost white tablets.

Indications/Therapeutic Uses
For the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension.

Strength/Specification
5 mg × 20 tablets

Dosage and Administration

  • Oral administration: Initial dose: 2.5 mg twice daily, or as directed by a physician.
  • Maintenance dose: Typically 5 mg or 10 mg daily. Doses may be further increased if necessary, or additional antihypertensive agents may be added.

Adverse Reactions

  1. Similar to other calcium channel blockers, this product may cause flushing, headache, dizziness, palpitations, and fatigue in some patients. These reactions are mostly dose-dependent, occur shortly after dose escalation, and are transient, resolving with prolonged use.
  2. Like other dihydropyridines, it may cause dose-related ankle edema. Patients with gingival or periodontal disease may experience mild gingival enlargement.
  3. Rash and pruritus may also occur.
  4. In rare cases, significant hypotension with tachycardia may occur, potentially leading to myocardial ischemia in susceptible individuals.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to felodipine.

Drug Interactions

  1. Concomitant use of cytochrome P450 enzyme-affecting drugs may alter felodipine plasma concentrations.
  2. Enzyme inducers (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine, barbiturates) may decrease felodipine plasma levels.
  3. Enzyme inhibitors (e.g., cimetidine) may increase felodipine plasma levels. Despite felodipine's high plasma protein binding, it does not affect the protein binding of other drugs (e.g., warfarin).

Precautions
No specific studies are available in this regard.

Pediatric Use
Experience with pediatric use is limited.

Geriatric Use
In patients aged 65 and over, felodipine plasma clearance decreases, leading to elevated plasma concentrations. An initial dose of 2.5 mg once daily is recommended. Dose adjustments in these patients should be accompanied by blood pressure monitoring.
