Ingredients
Pueraria Root (Gé Gēn), Snakegourd Root (Tiān Huā Fěn), Rehmannia Root (Dì Huáng), Ophiopogon Root (Mài Dōng), Schisandra Fruit (Wǔ Wèi Zǐ), Licorice Root (Gān Cǎo).
Characteristics
This product is a black coated concentrated pill. When the coating is removed, it appears yellowish-brown. It has a faint odor and a bitter-sweet taste.
Actions and Indications
Nourishes Yin, generates fluids, relieves thirst and irritability, tonifies Qi, and harmonizes the middle. Used for treating diabetes mellitus (also known as "consumptive thirst syndrome") caused by impaired pancreatic function, resulting in metabolic disorders of substances and carbohydrates, elevated blood glucose, and deficiency of Yin in the lung, stomach, and kidney. Also indicated for post-febrile conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Oral use. Adults: 6 grams once, 4 times daily. Children aged 7–12: 3 grams once. Children aged 3–7: 2 grams once.
Adverse Reactions
Rare cases of diarrhea, abdominal distension, and loose stools have been reported.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in pregnant women.
Precautions
- Use with caution in cases of Yin-Yang dual deficiency with consumptive thirst.
- This product is cooling and nourishing; use with caution in patients with spleen-stomach weakness, abdominal fullness, poor appetite, or loose stools.
- Avoid fatty, sweet, or spicy foods during treatment. Maintain a balanced diet and refrain from alcohol and tobacco.
- If diarrhea occurs, it usually resolves after discontinuation. Mild cases of abdominal distension or loose stools may continue without discontinuation, as symptoms often subside.
- Avoid prolonged mental stress; engage in appropriate physical activity.
- For severe cases, combine with other hypoglycemic agents to prevent exacerbation.
- Monitor blood glucose regularly during combination therapy with Western hypoglycemic drugs to avoid hypoglycemia.
- Early prevention and treatment of complications (e.g., diabetic encephalopathy, cardiopathy, nephropathy) are recommended to prevent deterioration.
