Pharmacological Effects
This medicine has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, sedative, analgesic, cholagogue, and antitumor effects.
1. Jiujiecha (Sarcandra glabra) and Sanqi (Panax notoginseng) in this prescription have antibacterial properties. In vitro bacteriostatic tests of Jiujiecha have shown certain inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, and Salmonella paratyphi. Sanqi inhibits various dermal fungi to varying degrees.
2. Bezoar and Sanqi exhibit anti-inflammatory effects. The egg white arthritis method demonstrates that taurine and artificial bezoar inhibit experimental inflammation. Additionally, bezoar, cholic acid, and deoxycholic acid all inhibit the increase in capillary permeability and extravasation.
3. Bezoar can counteract central excitatory symptoms in mice induced by caffeine, camphor, and picrotoxin.
4. Oral administration of bezoar or deoxycholic acid to rats can relax biliary sphincters and promote bile excretion.
5. Jiujiecha and bezoar have antitumor effects. Bezoar can also promote the regeneration of red blood cells in rabbits, increasing the number of red blood cells and hemoglobin levels.
