Pharmacological Effects
In experimental renal hypertensive dogs, oral administration of this product at a dose of 0.2g/kg significantly reduced blood pressure, decreasing from 190/142 mmHg to 153/98 mmHg within 2 hours. At doses of 0.2 and 0.4g/kg in dogs and cats, it slowed heart rate for 5 hours after 20 minutes of administration. In rats, doses of 0.3 and 0.6g/kg significantly antagonized arrhythmias induced by aconitine, calcium chloride, and coronary artery ligation. The anti-arrhythmic mechanism may be related to affecting calcium ion influx. In mice, oral administration of 0.6 and 1.2g/kg reduced spontaneous activity and had a synergistic effect with pentobarbital sodium, causing the loss of righting reflex.
